How to Avoid Regret by Writing a Letter to Your Future Self
We may forget why we took a decision and regret it later — but not if we have our reasons in writing
I have a habit of going from regret to regret. I also have a habit of not thinking things through before acting. Do you see a connection there?
As a result, there are endless decisions I’ve made that I regret.
There are, however, also big life-changing decisions that I made that I do not regret. They all have one thing in common. These are invariably the decisions that I took the time to write about in detail at the time of making them.
I wrote down everything I was feeling at the time of making those decisions — capturing facts and emotions alike.
I primarily did that so I wouldn’t beat myself up later on over something I did a long time ago.
It has worked so well for me that I highly recommend it to others as well. While one can also journal in order to make a decision, here I’m talking about writing a letter after you have already made a decision.
If you do that, here’s what it will accomplish.
